SHULAS-women-winemakers-INSTA-640x640Shula’s is celebrating women winemakers like only a legend can — by offering you some of the finest wines crafted by California’s legendary female winemakers. This month, Shula’s is highlighting Elizabeth Grant-Douglas from La Crema, whose pinot gris has a wild side you won’t want to miss; and Kristina Werner from Arrowood, whose dark, elegant cabernet will prove hard to resist.

The 2014 Pinot Gris from La Crema is the perfect embodiment of the distinctive cool-climate Monterey appellation in California. A harmonious blend of white peach and ripe pear is underscored by hints of jasmine scents, Meyer lemon, yellow apple and honeycomb. This bright, fresh, 100% pinot gris has a lush acidity and a soft, but lingering finish. Winemaker Elizabeth Grant-Douglas has spent over a decade at La Crema, working tirelessly to develop the subtleties and complexities of the grapes in the region’s terroir. Her devotion to the art of winemaking is reflected in every refreshing sip of the 2014 Pinot Gris.

Pair with our Pan-Seared Sea Scallops or Twin Lobster Tails to balance the rich, buttery flavors of these delectable seafood favorites.

The 2013 Cabernet from Arrowood Sonoma Estates is pure seduction in a bottle. Sourced primarily from the Sonoma and Knights Valleys in California, this sumptuous blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot combines the fragrant flavors of dark cherry, plum, and black currant preserves with hints of dark chocolate and chai tea. The multi-layered palate and velvety finish is Sonoma County Cabernet at its best. Cab Savs are Winemaker Kristina Werner’s specialty. Her passion for creating artisan Bordeaux-style wines began when she first visited the legendary appellation in France, and has continued to her post at Arrowood where she and her team strive to make finely balanced, complex wines like the 2013 Cabernet.

Pair with any of our premium Black Angus cuts of beef to compliment these smoky, charred-just-to-perfection menu legends.

Whether you fancy the pinot gris or cabernet, know this – Shula’s selects only the highest quality wines to offer its patrons, and this month was recognized for the second year in a row with the Best of Award of Excellence by Wine Spectator for its outstanding wine list. You won’t go wrong, no matter how you decide to celebrate.
