Spring is in the air with the new crop of micro brews served up at the well-stocked bar at Shula’s Naples! With a sampling of microbreweries from up and down the East coast, you are sure to find a new favorite among the offerings.
We start our blissful brew-brouhaha, in Vermont as the first stop in our East coast flight, with Magic Hat #9, Not Quite Pale Ale®. The brew will twirl and float around your taste buds with a mysterious, can’t-quite-put-my-finger-on-it, crisp and refreshing zing. Who knows what kind of magic happens in that Vermont brewery, maybe you can uncover the mystery when you try it for yourself!
Way down south, Florida that is, we find the perfect trio to round out our East Coast jaunt. First up is The Florida Beer Company’s Florida Lager is a seasoned favorite that has a lot of metal, namely gold, silver and bronze. This American-style Amber Lager, winner of the US Open Beer Championship in 2011, 2013 and 2015, as well as Best of Florida in 2012, bestows a sweet caramel and slightly roasted malt with subtle rich spice. It finishes as crisp and clean, as a golden Florida winter sunset.
Next we head west for the I-4 IPA from the Orlando Brewing Company. This smooth full-bodied brew is crafted using the finest organic hops to deliver a zesty and citrus aroma filled ale. A caramel note floats over your taste buds and a subtle sweetness with an earthy medium body. Its a must try when in Florida.
The last micro brew on our Florida list is on the gulf coast and hails from Ybor City, where this pale ale derives its name from the “merry game” made popular at the turn of the century. Jai Alai IPA from Cigar City Brewery, winner of gold and silver medals from the Best of Florida Beer Championships in 2010 and 2011. It pairs nicely with crab and other spicy dishes as it finishes with a tropical fruit hop note.
A great journey always ends with coming back to familiar surroundings; so don’t forget the tried and true favorites, the Hard Ciders of Angry Orchard and Samuel Smith. With all of these micro beers and cider options, which have their own unique flavors to recommend them, the only thing left to do is take yourself off on your own journey to Shula’s Steakhouse in Naples.
